As most of us prepare for the upcoming holiday season, around tables laden with food, many in the community are still hungry. Local food banks are experiencing tremendous needs for food in Carroll, Haralson, and Heard Counties. Many of the local charities are either running out of food or running low on items.
In an effort to increase public awareness and to meet these increasing needs, the Community Foundation of West Georgia is once again sponsoring Wrap Up Hunger, a campaign seeking donations of food. Local businesses are being asked to conduct food drives encouraging employees and others to donate food items.
Nonperishable foods are needed, such as peanut butter, jelly, crackers, cereals, dried beans, rice, boxed mac and cheese, pasta and pasta sauce, soups, canned vegetables and fruits, and canned meats like tuna and chicken, Vienna sausages, and beans and franks.
Local businesses collecting the food should contact Rebekah Carpenter at the Community Foundation when the food is ready to be picked up. The Foundation will be working with local food pantries, which will pick up the food from the respective businesses.
