In it's fifth year, CFWG is among Georgia's top 10

In the fifth year since its formation in 2003, the Community Foundation of West Georgia already has been ranked among Georgia’s 10 largest community foundations* and has total assets of $21.5 million.

“The Foundation’s amazing growth is an indication of the generosity we have found in our community,” said P J. Younglove Hovey, chairman of the Community Foundation of West Georgia.

In 2007, the Foundation made grants of $895,000, including $310,000 to 28 local nonprofit organizations in Carroll, Haralson and Heard counties from the Community Impact Fund.

Today, the Foundation has 50 funds, with 13 of those established in 2007.  There are a number of choices in how to make donations to the Foundation.  Donors may choose to establish funds designated for donations to specific nonprofits organizations or specific fields of interests.  Other funds allow donors the opportunity for a high level of involvement with freedom from administrative issues or to support the operation of the Foundation.

The Community Impact Fund allows the Foundation to meet the needs of the community through a competitive grant process each year.  All funds remain right here in the communities of Carroll, Haralson and Heard counties as local nonprofit organizations, faith-based and government agencies apply for grants to support programs that serve the community in one of six areas:  education, human services, environmental improvement, medical and hospice care, art and cultural activities, and economic development.

What is the Community Foundation of West Georgia?

The Community Foundation of West Georgia is a public charity whose mission is to enhance the quality of life for the people of Carroll, Haralson and Heard counties.  Unlike private foundations or the giving of individuals, the Community Foundation is a public charity, providing local citizens a credible, professional, perpetual means of giving back to the community.  Put simply, the foundation is a collection of funds, both designated and unrestricted.  The funds provide resources to support charitable activities in the West Georgia area.

Who benefits from the Community Foundation?

The entire community benefits from the Foundation as it increases the total pool of philanthropic resources available for charitable activity in the West Georgia region.  The Foundation strengthens the self-sufficiency of the nonprofit sector and serves as a resource and a catalyst for charitable activities and organizations.
