Dr. John Burson Epitomizes the Volunteer Spirit

Dr. John Burson, a founding board member of the Community Foundation of West Georgia, epitomizes the volunteer spirit of service that is a cornerstone of the local foundation.

Dr. Burson, a retired Army Reserve lieutenant colonel, recently demonstrated that volunteer spirit again as he began his third combat tour.  This time he will serve on a 90-day deployment to Afghanistan with a unit of the 101st Airborne Division.  Four years ago on the first of his two stints in Iraq he was among several doctors assigned to keep watch over an imprisoned Saddam Hussein.
